By Sports Direct San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews sat out Thursday’s practice because of an injured left foot.Matthews, coming off the best game of his career, said he intends on practicing Friday and anticipates being ready to play Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.The second-year back from Fresno State ran for 98 yards and two touchdowns along with grabbing four passes for 51 yards in a 20-17 win over the Kansas City Chiefs last weekend.Mathews, the 12th overall pick in 2010, rushed for 678 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie.

Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill Tuesday that San Diego boosters hope will assist in building a stadium to replace aging Qualcomm Stadium and keep the Chargers from leaving for Los Angeles. AB900 would provide other stadium projects statewide much the same protection from legal and environmental challenges that the more-publicized SD292, which Brown also signed, does for a Los Angeles stadium project

San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates(notes) may be headed to North Carolina to see a doctor who has performed a previous surgery on his foot to try and figure out what’s wrong with him right now, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
